    Description: “Search, Rescue, and Soar: FAA Part 107 Certification Exam Preparation" is a 5-day course from Feb 19-23, 2024, at the Search and Rescue Conference. The training covers UAV aerodynamics, FAA regulations, airspace operations, weather considerations, and prepares students for the Part 107 certification exam. Participants will receive in-person classroom instruction preparing them for the FAA Part 107 drone pilot exam and SAR drone operations. We recommend participants bring a laptop or tablet to take notes during the course. Successful attendees will earn a certificate of completion from Draganfly and be prepared for the FAA Part 107 examination. The course is at no cost to participants. Students are able to take the FAA Part 107 Exam on Friday, Feb 23 if desired.

    Description: This presentation explores the impacts of the cognitive bias known as normalcy bias on decision making in search and rescue (SAR) coordination. It will examine U.S. Coast Guard response operations, both from personal experience and other publications, to reveal this little-known threat to life-saving operations. Once revealed, several strategies are suggested to mitigate this threat and prevent SAR mission failure. Due to the sensitive nature of the material discussed, all of which involve the loss of life, much of the incident information is generalized.
